When I started to travel, I used to bring a small gift for my hosts or the people I planned to meet. But now, I can't really do
it anymore, as I don't always know who will host me, who I'll meet, and most of all: I don't want to carry to many stuffs anymore.
So I always bring a copy of my favorite French recipe and try to be ready to do it to thank the people around me or just to enjoy a nice dinner. It's quite easy to do, and until now I always find the ingredients I need, even if sometimes the taste isn't exactly the same as at home.
Here is for you, my own recipe of.... crêpes !
And just to be sure we all speak about the same thing: crêpes are the French version of pancakes, blinis or chapatis. My recipe has a lot of sugar, as I prefer them with chocolate or honey.
Ingredients:
150g flour
1 pinch of salt
4g baking powder (1/2 sachet)
1/2 glass of water (around 15cl)
1/2 glass of milk
1 tablespoon of rum
3 tablespoon of oil (I use rapeseed oil as it's one of the cheapest here)
4 eggs
4 tablespoon of sugar
2 tablespoon of vanilla sugar
Mix flour + salt + baking powder + sugar + vanilla sugar.
While mixing, add slowly the eggs, then the water, the milk, the oil and the rum.
Your mixture has to be really liquid, without lumps or air bubble, so you'd better forget the whisk.
I like to add some coloring in it, just for the fun.
It's better to leave it one hour in the fridge, but honestly, I never do it, as I always decide at the last minute that I want to have crêpes for dinner, and have no time to waste.
Cook in a frying pan. The crêpes are bigger than pancakes/blinis but less thick.
You can add on the top of them : chocolate, butter, honey, sugar, jam, fruits, … And if you take away from my recipe the sugars and the rum, you can choose to add mushroom, ham, cheese...
